"Rainy Day"

Another low rumble rippled across the sky, building slowly to an intensity powerful enough to rattle the windows. A steady pitter-patter of rain had been falling for the better part of the morning. It was a light rain, soft and almost eerie in a sense. Faolin sighed, leaning his head against the glass as another flash of lightning lit up the skies. So much for any hopes of flying today!

"Still looks pretty bad out there, huh?" a voice asked from behind him. Even if Faolin hadn't recognized the voice, that hint of hopefulness would have given it away. He turned to see a teenager of perhaps 17 or 18 years standing there, hands in his pockets as he looked out the window, ignoring the few strands of his dark blue hair that fell in front of his face.

"Yeah..." Faolin sighed, looking back out the window again.

"Guess that means we won't be going flying today then, huh?"

Faolin glanced at Rain out of the corner of his eye. "Not unless you enjoy electrocution..."

He didn't miss Rain's sigh of relief. In a voice that in no way suggested any sadness, Rain replied, "What a shame!"

Skepticism? Naaaah!

Raising an eyebrow with a partial grin, Faolin asked, "What, were you actually looking forward to it today or something?"

Rain shrugged, unable to hide his smile. "Well, nothing to be done if it's raining, now, is there? Weather's quite unpredictable; gotta take it as it comes, ya know?" he replied in an entirely too cheerful voice.

There was an odd glow in his friend's deep blue eyes, Faolin had noticed. Still watching the blue-haired boy out of the corner of his eye, he conceded, "Yeah, I guess. Looks like you're off the hook today, buddy!"

A full-hearted grin spread across Rain's face. "Looks that way, doesn't it? Well, I've gotta get going. I promised to play a game of Scrabble with Miri and Cait in the rec room, so I'll be seeing' ya! Later!"

Practically skipping to the door, Rain could only just barely keep from whistling. Just as he got to the door, though, Faolin's voice called to him with a tinge of amusement, "You're off the hook today, but just remember: you can't make it rain forever, my friend!"

Rain stopped dead in his tracks with a wince, cursing lightly under his breath. At the sound of a laugh, he looked up to see Raash leaning against the wall in the hallway, arms crossed and a grin on his face that let Rain know immediately that the ghostly elf had heard everything. He said only one word, his voice filled with glee: "Busted!"
